a legendary beast
This idea came out of "unkillable monsters" thread in the discussion forum, but i felt it more suiting here. This is how it would work:
-All outpost leaders (or the most important person in an outpost) have the option to discuss "oompa loompa". However when you discuss with them, they simply respond with "there are more pressing matters at hand, one shouldn't be spending time with fantasies"
-after you "finish" the game (hence eliminating more pressing matters) they now say "I've heard of the beast, but I'm quite skeptical as to whether such a thing really exists"
-when you have the favor of the gods (and have beaten the game), it is your opportunity to hunt the mighty oompa loompa down. Now, when you ask the leaders about they will respond with "a group of travellers from (closest outpost to current location in the direction of the oompa loompa) said that they've seen it."
-you then follow a chain of outpost to outpost, npc to npc, until you find the one that is closest to the zone in which the oompa loompa is hidden. The leader says "aye, I've heard of such a beast just here in Old Ascalon... many people are caught up in this overrated myth."
-You are racing a clock, because you have to create the instance with the oompa loompa inside before you lose the favor of the gods! Also you have to be the first person to create the instance since when a team makes the instance containing the oompa loompa it can't be created again until either the team dies or kills it.
-once you create the instance with either all ascended players or ascended + henchmen, you are safe. Losing the favor of the gods will no longer affect the oompa loompas presence.
-In the instance, you have to search over the whole zone, since its presence will be random unlike other bosses that can be found in specific places where mobs are congregating.
-your team fights a level 30+ flying green fire-breathing chocolate-making mofo like you have never seen before!!!! It's a one run deal. If you die, he flies away and you lose him.
-If you beat him, he drops like a normal boss would drop (like say, glint would drop) but for each party member he also drops an "oompa loompa scale" which itself could probably be salvaged for like 20 steel ingots or 250 scales or something, but who would ever sell such a prize? who would ever believe that you've seen it if you didn't have the scale?
The rarity and difficulty to find such a beast would make it so awesome. Most creators have the mindset that something awesome should be shown directly and often, but in rarity things are so much better. Look at Glint, despite just being a grandmother drake she is quite impressive to behold... and she is 100% unique. Aside from the end-game boss, I can't think of any other that is 100% unique.
a race
a series of clues
a hunt
a deadly struggle
a single scale
-----------------
the coolest damn bragging rights anyone ever had!

Europeans get jipped then if its based on favor =/
Also, if only one of it spawns every favor change, this would limit its access to maybe 1% of the players. Make it so that its REALLY hard to kill (Like Glint on crack), but accessible to more people.

I love the idea, but maybe don't limit to 1 instance, almost no one would ever get it. And plus it wouldn't be that easy to through together a group that fast, and I doubt henchmen would be very easy. Plus the people with Dial-Up would kinda get cut out since they take a little longer to load things like towns. Maybe make it so that everyone can get to the Oompa Loompa(I love that word). But the first team to kill her gets the scale drop. For everyone else it just dissappears. Kinda like the new Survival in the tombs.

how about, the zone it spawns in doesn't end... so it's not a race against other players but just a race against the favor. This way, three parties could all go after the oompa loompa independantly. But accessability is kind of the problem I was talking about. How much cooler would it be to fight an oompa loompa if you've logged 300 hours and this is the first time you've seen it? How much cooler would it be to kill an oompa loompa if you've hunted it for 50 collective hours and this is the first time you've seen it?
incidentally... oompa loompa is taken... they're those little green slaves who work in Willie Wonka's chocolate factory.

How about an easier way to keep it down to 1 time chance: Do it like a mission. Once you get to the dragon its over and can't be done again. And you can't go into that area without access to that mission or without going to the other towns before.

I agree it would be much more exciting, but how depressing would it be to spend 50 hours looking and not find it.
And Oompa Loompas aren't slaves, Willy Wonka...RESCUED THEM!! :{

ever seen them referenced in the simpsons?
Homer (after Marge returns from Motherloving Sugar Corp.): Were there Oompa Loompas?
Marge: There was one in a cage... but he wasn't moving...

Well either way you have 50 hours spending for just a "little" reward that is not worth it, or 50 hours spending for a unique reward which offcourse everyone wants then and then everyone would have to hunt it and that would actually be even worse.
Bad idea imho. Sorry

the point is, it's not a quest... it's a surprise. If you don't know about the beast and your party of 4 level 9's fresh out of pre-sear happens to stumble on this massive beast, you'll run right back in to town and scream out what happened...
and everyone will think you're full of crap
And if you're not interested in a trophy prize don't hunt it.

people who are only interested in a functional reward, of course would never look for it... they could just farm, trade or do missions.
But what about those of us who love the hunt? Surely I can't be the only one that gets twitchy and wide-eyed upon seeing a massive worm appear...

You don't play on the european servers do you?
That quest would be nearly impossible to finish for us.

I like the idea, without the whole 'first one to instance it is the only one to get it' thing.
It would just serve to peeve a lot of people who will try and inevitably fail every single time. That's the kind of thing I expect from EQ, not GW.

My suggestion that this would be a guild only quest given in your guild hall by a Magistrate at X times. This would promote more guild based play and use for a guild hall for the PVE crowd.
There is really alot they could do here with the guild hall based quests because there could be -
-Faction based quests
-Unlock 2 Skills type quests (You Pick the skills)
-Semi Legendary Boss mission that gives 2 Gold Armor and 5 Purple armor after you beat the main creature, this would be more of a semi legendary boss mission making a challenging quest for PVP'ers yet more rewarding,
-XP reward quests
-"Legendary Bosses" quests,
This would work for both the PVE and PVP guild giving them options on what they want to accept yet still providing more content for both crowds. The PVP based rewards quests would have to be shorter and substantially easier due to the nature of the whiners, but for some it would be a great option to work on teamwork with their guild and get a little faction, or skills. This is no end all solution but its a thing that can be added that adds gameplay and replay value for both sides of the community which is very much split at all times.
Possible Pros:
-It Promotes Guilds
-It promotes Teamwork
-It Rewards both PVP and PVE
-Makes use of a guildhall for PVE
-Works in conjunction with the new faction system for PVP
-Quests would be randomly generated IE easy ones - 1 day regen - hard ones after 3 days. They would be regenerated with new locations to travel = Replayability
Just my idea and I'd like any input from anyone.

I like the idea of it being a guild quest, except that I'm still pretty stuck on the idea of having to track it down to an arbitrary zone across all of tyria.
And yes, I do play on Europe... and yes I realize my opportunities to find it would be far less than US or Korea's... but those are the eggs I'm forced to juggle. Perhaps if they introduce faction with other gods than Balthazaar it could have something to do with that.
